First Impressions

Upon arrival, the charm of The Temperance House immediately draws you in. Set in a historic location, it promises a delightful evening. We stopped in prior to a show at the Historic Newtown Theater. There was a Chicago cover band, Chicago Transit, playing that night.

Note that the Tavern’s menu is not the same as the menu for the dining room.

There are a couple of television screens over the bar. You might be able to catch your favorite game.

On The Menu

Starters

  • Sweet Potato Fries – Priced at $7.75, these were a treat to the taste buds. Crispy and well-seasoned.They are lightly coated with sugar and come with a sweet dipping sauce.

Main Course

  • Bourbon Burger – An enticing blend of flavors priced at $18.50. The burger includes bacon and a generous helping of crispy frizzled onion rings.
  • Chicken BLT Sandwich – This unique dish costs $12.50 and is a must-try for poultry lovers.

Drinks

  • Espresso Martini – A buzz of caffeine and taste for $12.00.

The Bill

The total for the evening was a reasonable $72.08, including a tax of $2.33. For the array of dishes and drinks enjoyed, it was certainly worth the value.

Payment Options

The Temperance House encourages payments through cash or Venmo, given their handle @temperancehouse. It’s worth noting that a 4.0% fee is added to all credit card payments. This transparency is appreciated, ensuring visitors can plan their payments accordingly.

Parking

Street parking is limited. However, there are several free municipal lots within easy walking distance. During the day parking in these lots is limited to 3 hours.
