We visited the Waterwheel Tavern in Doylestown for a late lunch. We were going to go to a chain restaurant but a last minute changed proved to be an excellent choice.
Update for 2020/Covid
Check their website for the latest. Currently reservations are required and the reservations are for an hour and a half. There is no seating at the bar. Outdoor dining and takeout are available
The Waterwheel Tavern
I had the half rack of barbecue ribs which was enough to allow for a take home lunch. My GF had one of the flatbreads. I opted for a French toast beer from the Manayunk Brewery. It was sweet and had a hint of maple syrup. The service was great. Reservations are probably a good idea during the busy hours.
For more information see the Waterwheel Tavern’s website.
Waze listed the Waterwheel as being in Plumbstead, not Doylestown. You might want to do a double check before you go.
UPDATE – August 2019 – We stopped in again for a light dinner. Once again, the service and food were excellent. I had the rack of ribs. My girlfriend had a flatbread. There was enough to take home for lunch the next day.
We decided to eat inside instead of their outdoor garden due to the weather. We would like to go sometime and check out the garden.
There was some construction on the bridge adjacent to the inn. Access from the Doylestown side was possible.
There was live music when we visited. Mostly light oldies. The performers are usually in the bar area. If you want a quieter dinner, you can hardly hear them in the main dining room.
