This was previously known as The General Davis. Now it is simply “The General”. It is a bar and grill in an old building with good food and service.
Visited October 2019
Oct 2019. We visited The General for a Saturday night dinner. Our previous visits have always been good.
We decided to eat on the deck since it was warm and they have propane heaters. We started off with steak egg rolls. ($9). That was a good choice. I was looking for a cup of coffee since I had been burning the candle at both ends that week. Surprisingly they don’t serve coffee. No problem. I ordered Ice Tea instead.
I ordered the half rack of ribs with a side salad and sweet potato fries. ($16) The salad ($2) was large. The fries come with what appears to be a brown sugar, maple syrup and cinnamon spread. Given the portions, I asked for a box and saved half for Sunday’s lunch
My girlfriend went with a cheese steak adding sweet potato fries ($11). There was no problem switching that to a wrap.
The place was decorated for Halloween.
They have recently done some improvements (2019). There is now a handicap access ramp in the front. The new additions houses bathrooms which means you no longer have to negotiate colonial era steps to use the facilities. See The General’s site for menus and more information.
Getting there
The General is on Street Road in Southampton. They have a decently sized parking lot.
